In studying my way through the Scriptures, I was impacted by 1 Kings 6:12-13 this morning.  It held an “IF you will”, “THEN I will”.  Check it out.

“Concerning this house which you are building, 
if you will walk in My statutes and 
execute My ordinances and 
keep all My commandments by walking in them, 
then I will carry out My word with you 
which I spoke to David your father. 
I will dwell among the sons of Israel, 
and will not forsake My people Israel.”

As I studied through those verses, I was struck by how the phrases “I will dwell among” and “I will not forsake” were tied to an “IF you will…” .  I don’t know about you but that would not make me feel secure, knowing how many times a day I fail the Lord.  

Pause and consider with me what living back then would look like.  It was a time where there were things you could do or not do that caused the presence of God to leave you.  It was a time where repeated sacrifices were needed to atone for a person’s sin.  I would have been a nervous wreck, wondering all the time if I had done something or not done something that made God leave me.  As I sat pondering this for a bit, I found a fresh new appreciation for Jesus and all He accomplished for us on the cross.

The One who says come unto me and I will give you rest. Take MY yoke upon you and learn of ME, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your soul”.

The One who promises no one will ever pluck us out of His hand.

The One who promises never to leave us nor forsake us.
