Rainy Times

So I was listening to music, and Bring the Rain (Acoustic) by Mercy Me played.  As I listened to the chorus, “Bring me joy, Bring me peace, Bring the chance to be free…”.  These lyrics resonated with my spirit.  Until the next phrase was sung, and the lyrics hit my heart.  Dead. Center.

“Bring me anything that brings You glory”.

The Spirit then asked me, “Daughter, can you make that a prayer of surrender to me?  Do you trust me?  Is your life truly about MY glory?”  I had no answer.  I wanted to say “YES Lord. YES!”, but honestly, the thought of praying that scared me.

Through the years, I’ve had some tremendously trying, as well as some tragic situations enter my life.  And they hurt.  They hurt badly.  But you know, looking back now, I see that through them I, while I experienced great pain, I also experienced God’s deliverance, His provision, His loving care.  There was good that came from the pain.

Remembering the goodness of God back then brought me a reason to praise Him.  But if I’m being honest, to PURPOSELY pray “bring me ANYTHING that brings You glory”, that’s a tough one.

We all know that often God gets the most glory from the most painful of circumstances.  So if my focus is on bringing God glory, what’s my hesitation in uttering those words?  Just wow.  What this revealed of the condition of my heart was very sobering, very thought provoking, but also very necessary.

Life is not about me and my comfort.  My life is about HIS GLORY!  My life for HIS GLORY.

Well, I didn’t hear the rest of the song play.  I actually stopped to look up the lyrics to “hear” the message in its entirety.  I’ve included them below.  Hope they minister to you as they did to me.

BRING THE RAIN

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You with all that I’ve gone through
The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You

Maybe since my life was changed
Long before these rainy days
It’s never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times

So I pray

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there’ll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

I am Yours regardless of
The dark clouds that may loom above
Because You are much greater than my pain
You who made a way for me
By suffering Your destiny
So tell me what’s a little rain

So I pray

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there’ll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to
praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

Holy, holy, holy
Holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Is the Lord God Almighty
