Sunshine and Snowflakes

I was sitting at my kitchen table ready to dive into God’s Word, when He decided to use sunshine and snowflakes to teach me a lesson about myself and my purpose.

Two main things popped into my mind.

Every snowflake is UNIQUELY DESIGNED by God, and so am I.

“For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:13-14 NIV)

Every snowflake needs the presence of the sun to be RADIANT, and so do I.

Two things hit me as I pondered this thought.  The first is found in Exodus 34:29-35.  It tells of when Moses had gone up onto Mt. Sinai to meet with the Lord, and when he descended from the mountain after being in the presence of God, his face was radiant.  This kinda freaked out the people, so he would cover his face as that radiance faded.

The second thing that impacted me was how it’s so different for those who are devoted followers of Jesus today. We don’t go in and out of God’s presence.  We have the very Spirit of God living INSIDE us!  And with that comes the blessing of, not a “fading radiance”, but an ever-increasing one!

“Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
And we, who with unveiled faces all REFLECT the Lord’s glory,
are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NIV)

Just as God’s purpose was for the snowflakes to reflect the sunshine this morning, He also purposes for me as His follower to reflect His likeness in this dark world.

“Dear friends…work hard to show the results of your salvation,
obeying God with deep reverence and fear.
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and
the power to do what pleases Him.
Do everything without complaining and arguing,
so that no one can criticize you.
Live clean, innocent lives as children of God,
SHINING like bright lights in a world full of
crooked and perverse people.
Hold firmly to the Word of Life.”
(Philippians 2:12-16a NLT)

I was uniquely designed by God to be a reflection of God in this world.  Every moment of every day I have a choice—walk in step with His indwelling Spirit and SHINE like the snowflake in the sunshine…or walk in the flesh and be like just another snowflake on a cloudy day.

I CHOOSE TO “SHINE”!!!
How about you?
