The Glory of God

For the music director. A Psalm of David.
The heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their expanse declares the work of His hands.
~~Psalm 19:1~~

As I read and studied my way through this verse this morning, I was struck by the “glory” of God.  Kabod is the Hebrew word used here and it means: weight, splendor, or copiousness.  Now if you’re like me, you’re thinking, what in the world is “copiousness”?  I looked it up for us (wink).  Copiousness is yielding something abundantly; plentiful; full of thought, information, or matter; profuse or exuberant in words, expression, or style.  Wow!  Now if that doesn’t describe our God, I’m not sure what does.

As I sat in that definition for a bit, I found myself thanking the Lord for opening the eyes of my heart to be able to see Him through nature. I sense His presence so often through all He has made.  I’ve even been known to whisper out loud, “I see you, God.”

Watching the critters out my window each morning reveals the attributes of God to me.  He created the squirrels in a way that they are able to be warm in the dead of winter, and yet not overheat in the throes of summer.  He sustains them.  Sitting outside on the back porch in the evening, watching the deer graze in the field, God tells my heart to pant after Him as those deer pant after water.  I see Him everywhere. I see His faithfulness, His constancy as day always follows night.  There is always sunrise and sunset — and they are breathtaking.  I see how He made everything to survive the seasons — and He carries me through life’s seasons as well.

Pondering all of this brought Romans 1:19-20 to mind.

“Because that which is known about God is evident (shiningly apparent)
within them; for GOD MADE IT EVIDENT to them.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes,
that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived
(beheld fully, distinctly apprehended), being understood
(to exercise the mind and comprehend) by what has been made,
so that they are all without excuse (without defense
).”

It was GOD who made all this evident to me. Thank you Father!

I know that people don’t get me at times, when I get so jazzed about nature.  People may say “it’s just a bug…”.  When I see how God transforms a caterpillar into a butterfly, I am reminded to praise God for making me a new creation in Christ Jesus.  When I observe how the cicadas break out of their shell at the exact time He ordains, leaving the shell behind, I see an example of how we are to leave our old life behind when we are saved.  When I see how the birds naturally know how to prepare for and then care for their babies, it reminds me to pray for woman who may be considering abortion. When I see how God put nectar in each flower so bees can gather it to make honey, I am reminded that His word is sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.   I am absolutely amazed at the work of God’s hands. He set all we see in motion. He maintains everything and holds it in place.  And the fact that I can “see” any of this at all is because GOD made it evident to me.  Praise You Father!!!

Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.

If you lived across the street from me, you would hear that song being belted out regularly, as I’m on the tractor mowing, or as I walk from the shop to the house in the dark, looking up at the breathtaking stars.  Well now, come to think of it, I guess I’m not really surprised people don’t get me. haha
